Teatrimundo facts for kids
Teatrimundo was a fun children's television series from Puerto Rico. It aired on WKAQ-TV from 1987 to 1991. The show was a type of "edutainment," which means it was both entertaining and educational.
It was a bit like The Muppet Show because it featured a mix of human actors and puppets. The name "Teatrimundo" means "Small Theater World" in English. It's a mix of two Spanish words: teatro (theater) and Telemundo, which was the name of the TV station at the time.
Creating Teatrimundo
After a popular children's show host named Tío Nobel retired, there was a need for new kids' programs at the TV station. David Murphy, who was the president of Telemundo Puerto Rico in 1987, had an idea.
He brought together three talented people:
- Sandra Zaiter, who already had her own children's show.
- Lou Briel and Dagmar, who were known for their musical comedy show.
Sandra Zaiter moved to Telemundo to create this new show. She produced, starred in, and wrote for Teatrimundo along with Lou Briel.
Meet the Characters
The show had a wonderful cast of characters that kids loved:
- Titi Sandra was played by Sandra Zaiter herself. She was the kind owner of the theater, which was also her home.
- Lubrielito was played by Lou Briel. He was a sweet and innocent kid who had a crush on Dagmarita.
- Dagmarita was played by Dagmar. She was a playful, sweet, and caring girl.
- Pollito Yito was a tall, curious yellow chicken. He was played by Leticia Rossy and believed he was Titi Sandra's son. He was a bit like Big Bird from Sesame Street.
- Plumorosa was a fancy goose who dreamed of becoming a star. She was a puppet operated by Francisco Torres.
- Don Pepe was the theater's administrator, also a puppet operated by Francisco Torres.
Show Format and Popularity
Teatrimundo aired every Saturday and Sunday morning at 8:00 A.M. Sandra Zaiter and Lou Briel wanted to create a show that both kids and adults would enjoy.
The show quickly became very popular! It even reached the 7th and 8th spots in the TV ratings for a while. This was a big deal because it meant a children's show was competing with popular shows that aired in prime time (the most watched hours).
The show was divided into different parts, like a comedy show. Each part had a well-written story with a clear message and a happy ending. Sandra Zaiter, Leticia Rossy, and Lou Briel carefully wrote these stories. The stories were mixed with cartoons called Teatrilladas.
Sandra Zaiter also wrote the show's theme song. It was a rap song, and it was one of the first rap songs ever made for a children's show in Puerto Rico.
Famous Guest Stars
One of the most exciting parts of Teatrimundo was that each episode featured a special guest star. As the show became more popular, many famous people wanted to appear on it.
Some of the amazing guest stars included:
- Lissette
- Nydia Caro
- Lunna
- Fernando Allende
- Valeria Lynch
- Ednita Nazario
- Wilkins
- Menudo (when Ricky Martin was a young member)
- Luis Raúl

The show aired on Telemundo until 1991. Later, Sandra Zaiter created another children's show called Telecómicas, which also aired on WKAQ-TV for several years.
