Edward Harvey Bulley (born March 25, 1955) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played as a left wing in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Chicago Black Hawks, Washington Capitals, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ted Bulley was known for his strong play and spent ten seasons playing professional hockey. He was drafted by two different leagues in 1975, showing how much potential he had as a young player.

Starting His Hockey Journey

Ted Bulley was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on March 25, 1955. He started playing hockey in junior leagues, which are for younger players who are developing their skills. He played for teams like the Windsor Spitfires and the Hull Festivals.

In 1975, when he was 20 years old, Ted was chosen in two different drafts. The Chicago Black Hawks picked him in the seventh round of the NHL Draft. At the same time, the Quebec Nordiques chose him in the World Hockey Association (WHA) Draft. Being picked by two professional leagues was a big deal!

Playing in the NHL

Ted Bulley made his NHL debut with the Chicago Black Hawks in the 1976–77 season. He played most of his NHL career with the Black Hawks, from 1976 to 1982. During his time there, he became a key player, scoring many goals and helping his team.

After playing for the Black Hawks, Ted moved to the Washington Capitals in 1982. He played one season with them before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1983. He also played for the Baltimore Skipjacks in the American Hockey League (AHL), which is another professional league below the NHL.

Throughout his NHL career, Ted Bulley played in 414 games. He scored 101 goals and made 113 assists, adding up to 214 points. He was also known for being a tough player, spending 704 minutes in the penalty box. He retired from playing professional hockey in 1985.

How Teams Traded Players

During his career, Ted Bulley was part of some player trades between teams. These trades happen when teams exchange players or draft picks to improve their rosters.

  • On August 24, 1982, the Chicago Black Hawks traded Ted Bulley and another player, Dave Hutchison, to the Washington Capitals. In return, the Black Hawks received two draft picks for future years.
  • Later, on September 30, 1983, the Pittsburgh Penguins signed Ted Bulley as a free agent. This means he was not under contract with any team and could choose where to play next.
