Templers is a small town in South Australia. It is located north of Gawler on the Horrocks Highway. The town's postcode is 5371.

What's in a Name? The Story of Templers

Templers got its name from William Templer and his wife, Martha. They ran a hotel called the North Star in the area for many years. They were the owners from 1846 until 1878.

Education in Templers: A Look at the School

Templers once had its own school for children. The Templers Primary School first opened its doors in 1873. However, this school is no longer open today.

Places of Worship: The Mount Bethel Chapel

A special building called the Mount Bethel Wesleyan Jubilee chapel was built in Templers. People in the area had been meeting for worship in homes and sheds since the early 1850s. The chapel was started in 1863 and finished in 1864.

How the Chapel Connected to Other Towns

At first, the chapel was part of a larger group of churches connected to Gawler. Later, starting in 1870, it became part of a group that included Templers, Wasleys, Freeling, and Sheaoak Log. In 1880, Stockport also joined this group.
