Tenley Park facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Tenley Park is a cool community park located in the town of Everett, Pennsylvania. It's a big park, about 77-acre (310,000 m2) in size, and it's owned by the Everett Borough. With lots of family hiking trails, a fun playground, exciting geocaching spots, and two handy pavilions, Tenley Park is a fantastic place for everyone to relax and have fun, whether you're by yourself, with friends, or with your family!

What is Tenley Park's History?

We don't have much information about when Tenley Park first started or its very early history.

However, we do know that the park's playground was finished in August 2003. This awesome play area was built by members of the Everett Borough Recreation Board and many helpful friends from the community.

How is Tenley Park Used Today?

The Everett Recreation Board is in charge of how Tenley Park is used right now.

The park and its pavilions offer a peaceful place right next to town. People can use the park for family get-togethers or other approved events. If you want to reserve a pavilion, you just need to call the Borough office.

Tenley Park has been used for special events, like the Great American Backyard Campout and "Paws in the Park," as recently as 2015. It's also a key spot for the Mid State Trail (Pennsylvania). The Appalachian Mountain Club even mentioned it:

After an 8-mile walk on the ridge, we descend into the town of Everett. Here, the beautiful, 77-acre Tenley Park offers free camping to MST users. The town is located in a valley of the Allegheny Mountains in a water gap carved by the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River.

The Recreation Board has also allowed geocaches to be placed inside the park, which means you can go on a treasure hunt there!

What are the Future Plans for Tenley Park?

The Everett Borough Council has approved simple camping for hikers in the park. You can get permission by contacting the Everett Borough office at (814) 652-9202 or by checking the Mid State Trail (Pennsylvania) website. Official maps for the Tenley Park/Mid State Trail were planned to be ready by the end of 2013.

The Everett Recreation Board is also working to get the money needed to build an open-air amphitheater. This amphitheater will have a stage and seating for more than 80 people. It was planned to be finished by 2015 and will be a great place for concerts, outdoor classes, and many other events for the communities nearby.
