Tennyson is a small community in Texas, USA. It is an unincorporated community, meaning it does not have its own local government. It is located in southeastern Coke County, Texas. In the year 2000, about 35 people lived there.

History of Tennyson

A man from England, Samuel Sayner, started the community of Tennyson in 1882. He named it after a famous British poet, Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

In 1894, Tennyson got its own post office. This post office took over the mail services from another nearby post office. By 1910, a train line called the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway began service there. At that time, only 20 people lived in Tennyson.

For a while, Tennyson grew and had many stores and businesses. But in the 1920s, cotton farming became less popular. This caused Tennyson to stop growing. By 1940, 50 people lived there. However, by 1980, that number had dropped to 35. The post office stayed open, and the population was still 35 in 2000.

On May 2, 2007, a small tornado hit Tennyson. It moved across open land and damaged some trees.
