Tepeaca is a special area in the Mexican state of Puebla. It is called a municipality. Tepeaca is found in southeastern Mexico. It is about 35 kilometers (21.75 miles) from the big city of Puebla. The main town of this area is also called Tepeaca.

What's in a Name?

The name Tepeaca comes from an old word, "Tepeyacac." This word is from Nahuatl, a language spoken by some native people in Mexico. It combines two words: tepetl, meaning "hill," and yacatl, meaning "nose tip" or "in the foreground." So, Tepeaca can mean "on top of the hill" or "the beginning of the hills."

Tepeaca de Negrete

Tepeaca is also known as Tepeaca de Negrete. This is because it was the birthplace of a famous person named General Miguel Negrete Novoa. He was an important leader.

Natural Resources

Tepeaca is known for its natural resources. People from Tepeaca, along with those from a nearby place called Tecali Herrera, have worked to get onyx and marble from the ground. These are beautiful stones used for building and art.

A Look Back in Time

Tepeaca has a long history. It was first started by a Spanish explorer named Hernán Cortés. He founded the town and named it Segura de la Frontera. This happened a very long time ago.

The Santo Niño Doctor

In the church of San Francisco de Asís, there is a special statue of the Child Jesus. It is called the Santo Niño Doctor de los Enfermos, which means "Holy Child Doctor of the Sick."

History of the Statue

This statue is quite old. However, people have only recently started to show a lot of devotion to it. The statue used to belong to a nun. She was part of the Order of Josephine and worked at Concepción Béistegui Hospital in Mexico City.

When the nun moved to Tepeaca, she brought the statue with her. She kept it close as she helped sick people. Many believed the statue brought comfort and healing.

A Special Day

Because of its importance, the Santo Niño Doctor statue has its own special day. Since 1961, people have celebrated this day at the San Francisco de Asís church. The celebration happens every year on April 30th.
