Terence Blacker (born on 5 February 1948) is a well-known English songwriter, author, and newspaper columnist. He has written many books for both children and adults.

Who is Terence Blacker?
Terence Blacker was born near Hadleigh, a town in Suffolk, England. His father was General Sir Cecil Blacker. Terence also has a brother named Philip Blacker, who is a sculptor and used to be a jockey.
Growing Up and School
Terence grew up on his family's farm in Suffolk. He went to Hawtreys preparatory school. After that, he attended Wellington College. He then studied English at Trinity College, Cambridge, and finished his studies in 1969.
Terence Blacker's Career
Terence Blacker started his career in horse-racing. He even worked as an amateur jockey for a while. After that, he spent about 10 years working in publishing. This was during the 1970s and 1980s. In this job, he helped publish books by other authors.
Becoming a Full-Time Writer
In 1983, Terence Blacker decided to become a full-time writer. He has written many books since then. These include books for children and mystery novels for adults.
His first book for children, If I Could Work, was published in 1987. His first novel for adults, FIXX, was highly praised. A newspaper called The Guardian described it as a "tour de force," which means it was a very impressive work.
Writing for Newspapers and Magazines
Terence Blacker has also written for many newspapers and magazines. He writes a regular section called "Endpaper" for The Author magazine. For many years, he wrote a column called "Harvey Porlock" for The Sunday Times. He also wrote about the book business for Publishing News.
He wrote columns twice a week for The Independent newspaper for almost 16 years. His last column for The Independent was in December 2013.

In 2017, Terence Blacker was chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. This is a special honor given to writers in the United Kingdom.
Terence Blacker's Family Life
In 1975, Terence Blacker married Caroline Soper. She was the youngest daughter of a minister named Donald Soper. They later divorced in 2001. Terence and Caroline have two children together, named Xan and Alice. Today, Terence Blacker's partner is Angela Sykes.
