Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Germany
Terrence Boyd started playing soccer in different youth teams. He made his first professional appearance with Hertha BSC II in 2009. After a couple of seasons, he became a regular starter. In his last season with Hertha in 2010–11, he scored 13 goals.
After his contract ended, he joined Borussia Dortmund. He played for their reserve team, Borussia Dortmund II. In October 2011, he was called up to the main Borussia Dortmund team. Even though he was on the bench, he didn't play in that game. He scored 20 goals in 32 games for the reserve team.
Playing in Austria with Rapid Wien
In June 2012, Terrence signed a three-year deal with an Austrian club called Rapid Wien. He had a great first game on July 21. He scored two goals and helped with another goal against Wacker Innsbruck. He was named the best player of the match.
Terrence played very well for Rapid Wien in his first season. He scored 13 goals, which was the second-highest on his team. His team finished third in the league. This earned them a spot in the 2013–14 UEFA Europa League. Overall, he scored 37 goals in 80 games for Rapid Wien.
Time at RB Leipzig
In July 2014, Boyd moved to RB Leipzig. He played his first game for them on October 17, 2014. Sadly, he tore a ligament in his knee in December 2014. This injury made him miss the rest of that season. He finished the 2014–15 season with three goals in eight games.
He didn't play any games for the main RB Leipzig team in the next two seasons. However, he did score five goals in nine games for their reserve team, RB Leipzig II.
Moving to Other German Clubs
In January 2017, Terrence joined SV Darmstadt 98. He scored four goals in 24 games during the 2017–18 season.
Later, in July 2019, he returned to Germany to play for Hallescher FC in the 3. Liga. He scored 39 goals in 86 games for them. In January 2022, Boyd moved to another 3. Liga team, 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He quickly became their top scorer.
On January 10, 2024, Terrence Boyd signed a contract with SV Waldhof Mannheim, which is also in the 3. Liga.
International Career
Terrence Boyd has dual citizenship because his father is American and his mother is German. This allowed him to play for the United States national team.
His journey to the U.S. team started when a teammate told the U-20 coach about him. Terrence was invited to a training camp, but he needed a U.S. passport first. Getting his passport meant he had to reconnect with his biological father. He used social media to find relatives and get the necessary papers signed.
With his passport, Terrence played several games for the U.S. U-20 team. He also joined the U-23 team camps. On February 29, 2012, he made his first appearance for the main U.S. national team. This was in a game against Italy.
In March 2012, he played for the U-23 Olympic Qualifying squad. He scored two goals in a very important game against El Salvador. However, his team was still knocked out of the tournament.
Terrence played a big part in a historic win for the U.S. in 2012. In a friendly match against Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, his pass led to the only goal of the game. This was the first time the United States had ever won a match at that stadium.
He was on the list of 30 players for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not make it to the final 23-player team for the tournament in Brazil. Terrence has shown his dedication to the U.S. team by getting a tattoo of the American flag on his arm.
