Long ago, in the 6th century, a Christian monastery was built here. A holy person named Columba started it. He passed away around the year 552 AD.
Later, in the early 1300s, Terryglass Castle was mentioned in old tax records. It was also noted in 1615 for having a covered chancel, which is a part of a church. However, by the mid-1600s, only a churchyard was still mentioned. This suggests the castle or its church changed over time.
