Thaddeus Charles Young Sr. is an American professional basketball player. He was born on June 21, 1988. He last played for the Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Philadelphia 76ers picked him 12th overall in the 2007 NBA draft.

Thaddeus Young's Early Life

Thaddeus Young was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. His parents are Lula Hall and Felton Young. When Thaddeus was in fourth grade, his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. His father also played basketball for Jacksonville University. He was even picked by the Buffalo Braves in the 1978 NBA draft.

Young's High School Basketball Journey

Thaddeus started playing varsity basketball when he was in eighth grade. He went to Mitchell High School. There, he became one of the best high school players.

He earned many awards, like being named to the all-state team three times. In 2005, he won the TSSAA Class AA "Mr. Basketball" award. He was also named the 2006 Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year. Thaddeus was even chosen for the McDonald's High School All-American Team.

In 2006, he led his high school team to the TSSAA Class AA finals. During his senior year, he averaged 26.9 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. He was also great at stealing the ball and blocking shots. Thaddeus was a very good student too, graduating with a 4.3 GPA.

College Basketball Career

Thaddeus Young was the youngest player on the Georgia Tech freshman team in 2006. In his first year, he averaged 14.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. He was also good at shooting, making 47.8% of his shots from the field. He made 41.9% of his three-point shots.

Playing for the Philadelphia 76ers (2007–2014)

On June 28, 2007, the Philadelphia 76ers chose Thaddeus Young as the 12th pick in the 2007 NBA draft. He made his NBA debut on November 7, 2007. In that game, he scored 6 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

At first, he didn't play much. But after a trade, he started getting more playing time. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in his first season. He played 74 games and started 22 of them.

In 2009, Thaddeus was chosen to play in the Rookie Challenge game. This game features the best young players in the NBA. In the 2009 playoffs, he made a game-winning shot against the Orlando Magic. This gave his team a 2-1 lead in the series.

On March 7, 2010, he scored a career-high 32 points against the Toronto Raptors. In February 2014, he had another great game. He scored 30 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and had 7 steals against the Dallas Mavericks.

Thaddeus finished the 2013–14 NBA season with his best numbers in points, steals, and assists. He was also third in the entire league for steals that season.

Time with the Minnesota Timberwolves (2014–2015)

On August 23, 2014, Thaddeus Young was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. This was part of a big trade involving three teams: the 76ers, the Timberwolves, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Joining the Brooklyn Nets (2015–2016)

On February 19, 2015, Thaddeus was traded again, this time to the Brooklyn Nets. He later decided to sign a new contract with the Nets on July 9, 2015. In February 2016, he had 16 points and 14 rebounds against the Indiana Pacers. This was his 22nd game that season with double-digit points and rebounds.

Playing for the Indiana Pacers (2016–2019)

On July 7, 2016, Thaddeus Young was traded to the Indiana Pacers. In November 2016, he scored a season-high 24 points against the Atlanta Hawks. A month later, he scored 24 points again and made a career-high six 3-pointers in a win against the Portland Trail Blazers.

In November 2017, he scored 26 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In December 2018, he was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. This was his second time winning this award. In January 2019, he scored a season-high 27 points against his old team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

With the Chicago Bulls (2019–2021)

Thaddeus Young signed with the Chicago Bulls on July 6, 2019. After a tough first season, he played much better in his second year with the Bulls. He showed strong play near the basket, good shooting, and solid defense. He even started some games for the Bulls. That season, he won the NBA Hustle Award. This award goes to players who make a big impact with their effort and teamwork.

Moving to the San Antonio Spurs (2021–2022)

On August 11, 2021, Thaddeus Young was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. This trade also involved other players and draft picks.

Time with the Toronto Raptors (2022–2024)

On February 10, 2022, Thaddeus was traded to the Toronto Raptors. He signed a new two-year contract with the Raptors on June 30, 2022. On February 8, 2024, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets but was waived (released) by them on the same day.

Joining the Phoenix Suns (2024)

On February 20, 2024, Thaddeus Young signed with the Phoenix Suns.

Thaddeus Young's Personal Life

Thaddeus Young is married to Shekinah Beckett. They have two sons, Thaddeus Jr. and Taylor.

In May 2011, Thaddeus started a group called Young for Youth. This foundation helps young people and families who need support.

Sadly, Thaddeus's mother, Lula Hall, passed away on November 13, 2014. She was 57 years old and had been battling breast cancer.
