He played his first NBA game on November 7, 2007. He scored his first NBA field goal in a game against the Charlotte Bobcats. He finished that game with 6 points and 3 rebounds.
At first, Thaddeus didn't play much. But after a trade, he started getting more playing time. He often started games with Reggie Evans. In his first season (2007–08), he averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 21 minutes per game. He played 74 games and started 22 of them. His highest score that season was 22 points against the Milwaukee Bucks.
In 2009, Thaddeus was chosen to play in the Rookie Challenge. This is a special game for new NBA players. In the 2009 playoffs, he made a game-winning shot with only 2 seconds left against the Orlando Magic. This gave his team a 2-1 lead in the series.
