On June 28, 2007, the Philadelphia 76ers chose Thaddeus Young as the 12th overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft.

He played his first NBA game on November 7, 2007. He scored his first NBA field goal in a game against the Charlotte Bobcats. He finished that game with 6 points and 3 rebounds.

At first, Thaddeus didn't play much. But after a trade, he started getting more playing time. He often started games with Reggie Evans. In his first season (2007–08), he averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 21 minutes per game. He played 74 games and started 22 of them. His highest score that season was 22 points against the Milwaukee Bucks.

In 2009, Thaddeus was chosen to play in the Rookie Challenge. This is a special game for new NBA players. In the 2009 playoffs, he made a game-winning shot with only 2 seconds left against the Orlando Magic. This gave his team a 2-1 lead in the series.

On March 7, 2010, Thaddeus scored a career-high 32 points in a win against the Toronto Raptors. On February 21, 2014, he set another career high with 30 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 7 steals in a game against the Dallas Mavericks.

He finished the 2013–14 NBA season with his best numbers yet in points, steals, assists, and three-pointers made. He was also third in the entire league for steals that season.

Playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves (2014–2015)

Time with the Indiana Pacers (2016–2019)

On July 7, 2016, Thaddeus was traded to the Indiana Pacers. He scored a season-high 24 points against the Atlanta Hawks on November 23, 2016. On December 10, 2016, he scored 24 points again and made a career-high six 3-pointers in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

This was his second time winning this award. On January 17, 2019, he scored a season-high 27 points against his old team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Moving to the Chicago Bulls (2019–2021)
