What is The Golden Compass about?
The story follows a young girl named Lyra Belacqua. She lives in a world that looks a lot like ours but is also very different. In this world, every person has a special animal companion called a daemon. Your daemon is a part of your soul and stays with you always.
What is the plot of The Golden Compass?
Lyra's uncle, Lord Asriel, is a brave explorer. He discovers something mysterious called "Dust." This Dust seems to connect our world with other universes. Many powerful people, especially a group called the Magistrate, don't like this idea. They try to stop Lord Asriel.
One day, Lyra saves her uncle from danger. She sees someone trying to harm him and quickly warns Lord Asriel. After this, Lord Asriel travels to the far North Pole to learn more about Dust.
Lyra is then given a very special item: a golden compass. This compass is magical and can tell the truth about anything. Only a few people know how to use it.
A charming but mysterious woman named Mrs. Coulter then invites Lyra to join her. Mrs. Coulter promises Lyra that they will travel to the North Pole. Lyra is excited because she wants to find her uncle and learn more about the Dust.
