The Hangar Flight Museum, once known as the Aero Space Museum of Calgary, is a cool museum. It is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. You can find it just south of the Calgary International Airport.

A Look Back: The Museum's Story

The museum started in 1975. It was created by people who loved aviation. Many of them were pilots from World War II. The museum built on an older collection called the Air Museum of Canada.

In 1985, the museum moved to its current home. This building was once a hangar used for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. This plan trained pilots during World War II.

A big update happened in 2016. The museum got a new roof and a new heating and cooling system. In the same year, its name changed to The Hangar Flight Museum.

In 2019, a Hawker Hurricane airplane returned to the museum. It took seven years to fix it up! Earlier that year, work began to restore a CF-100 airplane.

In March 2023, a strong windstorm damaged the museum's annex building. This building stores some of their aircraft. It was the second time weather had damaged it. The museum is now raising money to build a brand new museum building.

What You Can See: Awesome Exhibits

The museum has many interesting things to see. There is an exhibit about Canadian space programs. It also has old documents about flying. These documents are kept in its archives.

There is a special war memorial at the museum. It has a large stone slab and four smaller ones. These were put up by aircrew groups. They honor the air forces that trained in Calgary during World War II. These forces included the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Royal Air Force (RAF). The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) are also named. In front of the slabs, there is a gravel picture of a Canadian roundel.

The museum also has a list of honor memorial. This memorial remembers Alberta airmen. These brave people died in the Second World War.

The museum works with other groups. These include the CMA and CHIN. It is also part of the Virtual Museum of Canada.
