The Horses of Helios, also known as The Four Bronze Horses of Helios, is a cool sculpture. It was made by an artist named Rudy Weller. This artwork is made of bronze. It was put in place in 1992.

The sculpture was part of a bigger art project. This project was created when the Criterion Theatre nearby was updated. The other part of the project is called Daughters of Helios. It shows three women leaping from the building.

About the Sculpture

The Horses of Helios is made of three bronze parts. They have a dark, shiny finish. One part is a pair of horses. It weighs about 4 tons! There are also two single horses.

The four horses look like they are bursting out of water. They are shown rearing up. This sculpture shows the four horses of Helios. Helios was the Greek god of the sun. Their names are Aethon, Eous, Phlegon, and Pyrois.

Where to Find It

The sculpture was put up in 1992. You can find it in a fountain. This fountain is under a cover at the bottom of a building. The building is at 1 Jermyn Street in London.

This spot is where Piccadilly meets Haymarket. It is also close to Piccadilly Circus. The building is right next to the Criterion Theatre. The sculpture was installed when the theatre was being updated.

The Daughters of Helios

The Daughters of Helios is also called the Three Graces. This part of the artwork shows three figures. They are the Charites from Greek myths. Their names are Aglaea, Euphrosyne, and Thalia. Some stories say they were the daughters of Helios. Their mother was a water spirit named Aegle.

These three female figures are made from aluminum. They are covered in gold leaf, which makes them shine. You can see them high up on the roof of the building. They look like they are jumping off the sixth floor, right above the horses.
