List of Hey Arnold! episodes

"The Journal" is a special two-part episode from the animated TV show Hey Arnold!. It was the nineteenth and twentieth episode of the show's fifth season. This episode first aired on Nickelodeon in the United States on November 11, 2002.

This episode brought back an important story from an earlier episode called "Parents Day." That story ended with a cliffhanger, which means it stopped at an exciting moment without a clear ending. The mystery from "The Journal" wasn't solved until the movie Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie came out on November 24, 2017.

What Happens in "The Journal"?

In this exciting episode, Arnold makes an amazing discovery. He finds a special journal that belonged to his father. This journal is hidden away in the attic of the boarding house where Arnold lives.

The journal tells all about the incredible adventures of Arnold's parents. It describes their time in the jungle of San Lorenzo. It also shares details about their marriage and when Arnold was born. On the very last page of the journal, there is a map. This map shows where Arnold's parents had to go after they left him. They were on a mission to deliver important medicine to the people living in the jungle.

How "The Journal" Was Made

The episode "The Journal" first aired on November 11, 2002. It was planned to end with a cliffhanger on purpose. The creators wanted this cliffhanger to lead into a big movie called The Jungle Movie. This movie was first planned for theaters but was later changed into a two-part TV movie.

The show's creator, Craig Bartlett, wanted to challenge Paramount Pictures with the cliffhanger. He hoped it would make them want to create a follow-up movie. This new movie would also be a sequel to Hey Arnold!: The Movie. However, the first movie didn't do as well as expected in theaters. Because of this, the studio decided not to make the follow-up film. This left the questions from "The Journal" unanswered for more than ten years. Finally, The Jungle Movie was released in 2017, giving fans the answers they had waited for.
