Book Four: Balance is the fourth and final season of the animated TV show The Legend of Korra. It was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. This season has thirteen episodes, also called "chapters". All the animation was done by Studio Mir.
The episodes first came out online every Friday starting October 3, 2014. They later aired on Nicktoons on November 28, 2014. People generally liked Book Four, just like they liked the rest of the series.
Book Four takes place three years after the previous season. It follows Avatar Korra as she recovers from serious injuries. These injuries happened during her fight with Zaheer. The season also shows problems in the Earth Kingdom. Here, a character named Kuvira tries to take control with her army. She used to be a security officer for Suyin Beifong.
After this season, the story continues in a graphic novel series. This series is called Turf Wars. It starts right after the TV show ends.
Making the Season
Nickelodeon reduced the money available for season 4. Because of this, the creators, DiMartino and Konietzko, decided to make one episode a "clip show". A clip show uses animation that was already made for previous episodes. This way, they didn't have to let many of their creative team members go.
They were inspired by a clip show episode from another show called Samurai Champloo. They decided to use about five minutes of new animation to frame clips from past Legend of Korra seasons. This episode, number 8, was called "Remembrances". It was also meant to be a fun, lighthearted episode. It was similar to the Avatar: The Last Airbender episode "The Ember Island Players". This lighthearted episode came before the final big events of the series.
