The Legend of Korra is an animated TV show. Its third season is called Book Three: Change. It was made by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. This season has thirteen episodes, also known as "chapters." All the animation was done by Studio Mir.
The season first aired on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on June 27, 2014. After some episodes were leaked online and TV ratings dropped, Nickelodeon stopped showing it after episode 8. The last five episodes of Book Three were then released online each week on Nickelodeon's website and other digital platforms.
This season mostly takes place in the Earth Kingdom, one of the main nations in the show's world. It also shows that more people are starting to airbend, even if they weren't born into Air Nomad families. The main bad guys in this season are the "Red Lotus." This is a group of dangerous people who want to get rid of all governments. They are led by a new airbender named Zaheer. They want to bring chaos to the world. Some new characters you'll meet include an older Zuko from the original Avatar show. You'll also meet Lin Beifong's sister, Suyin, and her family.

How the Show Was Made
Design and Inspiration

Book Three was the first season of The Legend of Korra to have a full team working on its design. This team was much bigger than the one for seasons 1 and 2.
The design for the waterbender Ming-Hua, who has no arms, was based on Bryan Konietzko's friend, Michi. Opal's hairstyle was inspired by Dolly Haas. The city of Zaofu, where Suyin Beifong lives, was inspired by Lake Louise in Canada. The outside of Lake Laogai, a secret police headquarters, was based on Lake Tahoe.
The sand shark that Avatar Korra and Asami run from in episode 10 looks like a real fish called a sarcastic fringehead. This fish lives in the Pacific Ocean. To save time, the designers reused the look of Zuko and Iroh's old apartment from Avatar: The Last Airbender for Mako and Bolin's family apartment in episode 11. Another idea from the first Avatar show was "becoming wind" as a very high level of airbending. This idea was in the show's original guide.
The idea of holding the Avatar with X-shaped chains, seen in the season finale, was first thought of for a scene where Aang was captured in the first Avatar season. But the TV network didn't allow it then. This time, it was allowed.
Animation and Voice Actors
The main animation studio, Studio Mir, got help from its smaller studio, Studio Reve, for some episodes.
Book Three introduced many new characters who would appear until the end of the series. These included the large Beifong family and Jinora's friend, Kai. Kai was an orphan thief named after writer Josh Hamilton's son. Bryan Konietzko was a bit worried about adding Kai because there were already many characters.
Starting with Book Three, the show became more popular. This meant they could get more famous actors to do voices. Anne Heche tried out and got the part of Suyin Beifong, Lin's sister. Henry Rollins was very interested in voicing Zaheer, the main bad guy of the season. He even called the creators to ask questions about the character.
Story Writing
The season's title, Change, was inspired by an old saying: "the only constant is change." This idea shows how much Korra's world changed after she opened the spirit portals in season 2. It also shows the return of airbending and how Avatar Korra herself changes. The writers thought about showing a flashback of the Red Lotus trying to kidnap Korra when she was a child, but they decided not to include it.
The writers were sometimes worried about having too many scenes where characters just explain things. They thought it might bore the audience. According to Konietzko, Nickelodeon often told them to add "more fighting, more action!" The writers wanted to focus on Avatar Korra and Asami becoming good friends in Book Three.
