The Story of Ninjago
A young boy meets a mysterious shop owner named Mr. Liu. Mr. Liu tells him the exciting story of Ninjago City. This city is often attacked by the evil warlord, Garmadon. Garmadon is the father of a teenager named Lloyd Garmadon. He is also the ex-husband of Misako, Lloyd's mom.
Everyone in Ninjago City dislikes Lloyd because he is Garmadon's son. This makes Lloyd feel very sad. But what they don't know is that Lloyd is secretly the Green Ninja! He is part of a special team of ninja warriors. This team includes Nya, Zane, Jay, Cole, Kai, and their wise teacher, Master Wu. They always stop Garmadon from taking over Ninjago City. They fight using cool giant robots called mechs.
The Ultimate Weapon
After Garmadon fails again, Master Wu returns. He tells the ninjas that only their "unique element" will defeat Garmadon. Lloyd is surprised to learn his element is green. His friends have other elements: Jay has lightning, Cole has earth, Zane has ice, Nya has water, and Kai has fire.
Wu also mentions an "Ultimate Weapon." Lloyd hopes this weapon can finally stop Garmadon. Wu warns them that no one should ever use it. The next day, Garmadon attacks Ninjago City with a new, giant mech. This time, he defeats Lloyd.
Lloyd then uses the Ultimate Weapon. But it's not what he expected! It's a laser pointer that attracts a real-life cat named Meowthra. Garmadon uses the laser to make the cat destroy the ninjas' mechs. Lloyd breaks the laser pointer, but Garmadon celebrates his victory. Lloyd then takes off his mask and tells Garmadon he is his son. Garmadon is very confused.
A Journey to Find Inner Peace
Lloyd meets his friends and Master Wu. Wu tells them they need an "Ultimate, Ultimate Weapon." This weapon can stop Meowthra from destroying Ninjago City. It is on the other side of Ninjago Island.
Garmadon overhears Wu talking and follows them. He fights Wu and traps him in a cage. But Wu falls off a bridge into a river. Before he is swept away, he tells the ninjas to find "inner peace."
The ninjas continue their journey, and Garmadon leads them. Lloyd is not happy about this. But during the trip, Lloyd and his father start to connect. The ninjas also learn that they don't always need their mechs to fight. They survive a fight with Garmadon's old generals. Garmadon even teaches Lloyd how to throw.
The Temple of Fragile Foundations
They eventually arrive at the Temple of Fragile Foundations. This is Garmadon's childhood home. Garmadon tells Lloyd he wished he had stayed with him and his mom. But he felt he couldn't change.
The ninjas find the Ultimate, Ultimate Weapon. It's a chest filled with Lego pieces that look like their elemental powers. But Garmadon steals it! He still wants to take over the city. He locks the ninjas inside the temple, and it starts to fall apart.
Lloyd realizes that "inner peace" means using their elemental power. They use their powers to escape the collapsing temple. As they fall off a cliff, Wu saves them with his flying ship, the "Destiny's Bounty." They head back to Ninjago City.
Saving Ninjago City
Garmadon arrives in Ninjago City and tries to defeat Meowthra with the Ultimate, Ultimate Weapon. But Meowthra eats him whole!
Lloyd and his team arrive and fight Garmadon's army. Lloyd goes up to Meowthra. He tells everyone that he is the Green Ninja. He realizes that "green" means life, and his power connects the ninjas and his family. He comforts Meowthra and tells Garmadon he forgives him. Garmadon cries tears of fire, and Meowthra spits him out.
Lloyd and his father make up. Meowthra becomes the mascot of Ninjago City, and Lloyd is seen as a hero. At the end of the story, Mr. Liu tells the young boy that he will train him to be a ninja.
