The Lost Princess is a fun children's picture book written by two sisters, Celeste and Carmel Buckingham. It was first published on October 1, 2007, by Divis-Slovakia. The book is filled with beautiful illustrations by Georgina Soar.

This fairy tale is a mix of different literary genres like fantasy, adventure, and mystery fiction. The main story is all about the importance of friendship, love, and how families stick together. You might find it interesting that this book is a bit like another famous story called The Lost Princess of Oz (1917), which was written by the American author L. Frank Baum as part of his Oz series.

How the Book Was Made

Before Celeste became a well-known singer, she and her sister Carmel created this fairy tale together. It was their very first public project! Even though they mostly lived in Slovakia since 1999, they wrote the book in English. This is because their father, Thomas Buckingham, is from the United States.

The book was officially released on October 1, 2007, by Divis-Slovakia. Georgina Soar created all the amazing illustrations. While the sisters didn't write more books in this style, they kept on with creative writing. They wrote many lyrics for pop songs, especially for Celeste's music. Some of their songs appeared on Celeste's first album, Don't Look Back (2012), which was released by EMI Czech Republic.

About 90 years after L. Frank Baum's The Lost Princess of Oz (1917) came out, the Buckingham sisters created their own "Lost Princess" story. Baum's book had twelve pen-and-ink drawings by John R. Neill, while the sisters' book was illustrated by Georgina Soar.

What Inspired the Story?

The story in The Lost Princess has some similarities to the 11th official "Oz" book, The Lost Princess of Oz (1917). That famous book was originally created by L. Frank Baum.

What People Thought

After the book came out on October 7, 2007, as a paperback, the girls' father, Thomas A. Buckingham, wrote a short summary. He shared it on the Amazon.com online bookstore website. He wrote: "This fairy tale was written by 2 sisters aged 11 and 8. The story is about the kidnapping of the younger of 2 sisters and how the older sister is able to find her and bring her back to her family. The characters have many adventures and go through many difficulties before their family is reunited. The characters must grow and become stronger through these difficulties. This story will appeal to all children."
