Discovering the Mellops' Adventures
This TV series is about three teenagers. They are two brothers, Michael and Jason, and their sister, Samantha Mellop. Their mother passed away a year before the show starts. Their family business is called 'The Lazy Daisy Nursery'. Their father, Bill, runs it. Their Aunt Josey, who is a bit forgetful, also helps.
The show's main idea is about strange things happening to the Mellop teens. Their father and aunt usually do not notice or believe them. Another family, the Dumps, often get involved. This family includes Bernie, the father, his clever daughter Harmony, and his annoying nephew Darren. The Dumps often try to use these strange events for their own selfish plans.
Season 1: The Search for the Grand Baby
The first season is all about finding the "Grand Baby." There are alien children living on the moon called Moonlings. Their leader, the Grand Baby, is getting old. He needs a new leader to take his place. So, a powerful energy is sent to Earth. It will choose a new leader for the Moonlings.
This power, which holds all the Grand Baby's special abilities, hits the Mellops' crystal punchbowl. It then spreads around their house. It touches several everyday items.
Magical Household Items
Suddenly, the Mellop teens find that these items have special powers. For example, there is a T-shirt that makes you invisible. A baseball cap lets you fly. A vacuum cleaner can travel through time. Even their toothpaste gives them the ability to understand any language.
Of course, the Dumps soon hear about these powers. They start making plans to get the powers for themselves. Bernie, the father, wants to use them for his business. Michael Mellop, who likes Harmony, often helps the Dumps get the powers. He does not see any harm in it.
Moonlings on Earth
Soon, the Moonlings realize something has gone wrong. They send two of their best agents to Earth. Their names are Gamma-Jane and Alpha-Ralph. They travel in a spaceship that looks like a VW Kombi van.
On Earth, they take human form. They don't realize their clothes look very silly. They rename themselves Jane and Ralph. Jane and Ralph drive around in the Kombi. They ask confused Sydney people if they know who the new Grand Baby is. Their search soon leads them to the Mellops' house.
The Quest for Powers
Jane and Ralph explain their mission to the Mellop teens. It is decided that Jane and Ralph will stay with the Mellops. They will finish their quest with the Mellops' help. Samantha tells her father, Bill, that Jane and Ralph are school friends. She says they are staying for the school holidays.
Together, the Mellops and the Moonlings try to collect all the powers. Jane believes that once they have all the powers, they will find the new Grand Baby. This search is harder than it seems. The Dumps are always trying to get the powers for themselves.
The New Grand Baby Revealed
After all the powers are finally collected, the Dumps even use the Moonlings' flying Kombi. The Mellops try everyone in their house to find the new Grand Baby. They try all the Mellops and Dumps family members. Finally, they discover that the new Grand Baby is the Mellops' family dog, Ajax!
Ajax is taken to the Moon. He is celebrated as the new leader. After a sad goodbye, Jane and Ralph go back to the Moon. They will teach Ajax how to be a royal ruler. The Mellops get ready for a "normal life." But things do not stay quiet for long.
Season 2: Stopping the Grubs
On a faraway planet called "Peaceful," huge monsters called Grubs attack. The Grubs use rayguns to turn everything into toffee. Then they eat it. They have done this to many planets before.
A Fax to the Wrong Planet
Back on Earth, Bill buys a fax machine for the Mellops' business. He plans to reopen the nursery with a big party. Samantha wants to be the first to use the fax machine. She sends a party invitation to the phone number she uses to contact Jane on the Moon.
It turns out the Moonlings' phone and fax numbers are different. The fax number is actually the Grubs'! The Grubs get the invitation. They trace it back to Earth. They know Earth has the Sydney Opera House. They think it would be a tasty meal. The Grubs send a 3D video-fax back to Samantha. They say they accept the invitation.
Samantha is confused. She calls the Grubs back and tells them they are not invited. The Grubs are annoyed and disappointed. They decide they will go to the party anyway. They will eat whatever they find on Earth.
The Window of Opportunity
Samantha immediately decides she must go to the Grubs' planet. She wants to convince them not to come. But how can she get there? The Mellops ask Darren Dump for help. Darren is always with his laptop. He looks up how to travel long distances in space.
Darren finds information on an online forum called the Pan-Galactic Bulletin Board. The best way to travel is with a "WOOP." This stands for "Window of Opportunity." Any normal window can become a WOOP with changes. But it needs a huge power source. Normal batteries do not make the WOOP go far.
Samantha asks Jane to send her a "Cold Fusion Reactor." This is what powers the Moonlings' spaceships. But even this is not enough.
Ebony and the Compressed Sun
Darren contacts a young girl on the forum named Ebony. Ebony is very smart. She lives in a black hole. She has been waiting for guests at her own party for a long time. They have never arrived.
Ebony appears as a 3D hologram. She gives the Mellops and Darren advice. She tells them how to use the WOOP and other helpful devices. Ebony says the Mellops will need a "Compressed Sun." But a Compressed Sun would blind any normal human. Ebony has one she can give them. It must be kept in an anti-matter paper bag.
Journey to an Alternate Universe
To get an anti-matter paper bag, the Mellops must go to an alternate universe. This universe is made of anti-matter. The Mellops convince Bernie Dump to go. If any Mellops went to the anti-matter universe and met themselves, it would be a disaster. Bernie is unlikely to be in the Mellop house in the other universe.
Bernie goes and finds the anti-matter universe is similar but "reversed." Bill and Aunt Josey are there, wearing each other's clothes. Jane and Ralph are also there, wearing each other's clothes. It seems the Mellops in that universe are still looking for the Grand Baby.
Bernie gets a paper bag. He comes back through the WOOP. But he accidentally brings the anti-matter Bill, Josey, and Ralph with him.
Returning Home and Saving the World
Jason tries to keep the anti-matter Bill and Josey away from the real Bill and Josey. He needs to return them to their own universe. Bernie stops the Mellops from using the WOOP. He claims he now owns it. After some confusion, the anti-matter Bill and Josey accidentally destroy the Mellops' nursery. The anti-matter Bill, Josey, and Ralph are sent back.
The Mellops convince Bernie to give them back the WOOP. They send Ebony the anti-matter paper bag. Ebony puts the compressed sun in it and sends it back. Now, with a Compressed Sun, the Mellops can finally go to the Grubs' planet.
Before their final plan, Samantha asks Jane and Ralph to come back to Earth. They help rebuild the nursery. Ralph has some useful tricks.
Samantha and Michael then use the WOOP to go to the Grubs' planet. Samantha explains to the Grubs how important it is to grow up. She tells them not to be destructive or hurt others.
The Grubs Grow Up
The Grubs have been stuck in their destructive stage. This is because of a broken clock in the black hole with Ebony. Darren gives Ebony instructions on how to fix it. When the clock starts working, trees grow around the Grubs. It is revealed that Ebony is actually a grown-up Grub!
Samantha and Michael successfully convince the Grubs to "climb a tree." They build cocoons to grow up.
Having saved the world, Samantha and Michael return to Earth. They help get the nursery ready for the party. The party is a success. It ends with the now grown-up Grubs sending one last 3D video-fax to the Mellops. They sing a thank you song. They appear in the night sky above the nursery. This is great advertising!
Ebony leaves her Black Hole and comes to the party with other grown-up Grubs. Darren decides he prefers the Mellops' company to his own family's. Meanwhile, Bernie Dump's many business debts catch up to him. The bank takes his trailer, which was all he had left. He and Harmony watch the Grubs singing in the night sky. They are now left with only each other.
