The Monster at the End of This Book is a super popular children's book. It stars Grover from the TV show Sesame Street. Jon Stone wrote the book, and Michael Smollin drew the pictures.

It first came out in 1971. Since then, it has become the best-selling Sesame Street book ever. Many people think it is a modern classic for kids.

What Happens in the Story

This book is about Grover, a lovable, furry monster. He reads the title of the book and gets very scared. The title says there is a monster at the end of the book!

Grover does not want to meet this monster. He starts begging the reader not to turn the pages. He hopes this will stop the book from ending.

As you keep reading, Grover gets more and more afraid. He tries to stop you from turning pages. He tries tying pages together. He even tries to build a brick wall. But nothing works because these are just drawings.

Near the end, Grover makes one last plea. He begs you not to turn the very last page. But when you do, there is a big surprise! The monster at the end of the book is Grover himself!

Grover tries to act like he knew it all along. But it is clear he is quite embarrassed. He thought he was going to meet a scary monster. Instead, he found out it was him all along.
