The New Adventures of Gilligan is a fun American cartoon show. It aired on ABC on Saturday mornings from 1974 to 1977. This animated series was based on the popular live-action show Gilligan's Island, which was on TV from 1964 to 1967. Later, the same company, Filmation, made another cartoon called Gilligan's Planet.

About the Show
The New Adventures of Gilligan brought back all the characters from the original Gilligan's Island show. Most of the actors from the first show came back to do the voices for their cartoon characters. This made the cartoon feel very much like the original!
Who Voiced the Characters?
Almost all the original actors returned to voice their characters. However, Tina Louise, who played Ginger Grant, and Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann Summers, did not. Tina Louise wanted to try different acting roles. Because of this, the cartoon version of Ginger changed her hair color from red to blonde. Dawn Wells was busy acting in a play and could not join the show.
Instead, actress Jane Webb voiced both Ginger and Mary Ann. She was credited as Jane Edwards for Mary Ann and Jane Webb for Ginger.
What's the Story About?
The cartoon's main story was just like the original live-action show. A first mate, Gilligan, and his Skipper go on a three-hour boat tour. They have five passengers with them. But they get stranded on a secret, empty island. The cartoon episodes also had similar plots to the original series.
One new thing in the cartoon was a monkey named Stubby. Gilligan became good friends with Stubby.
Lessons and Learning
Like many other cartoons from Filmation at that time, these stories were made for kids. They often taught a moral lesson. At the end of many episodes, Skipper and Gilligan would talk about what they learned that day. This was called an "educational tag." The show even worked with an expert, Dr. Nathan Cohen from UCLA, to make sure the lessons were good for kids.
