The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show was a popular Saturday morning cartoon. It was the sixth version of the famous Scooby-Doo series. This show first aired on September 10, 1983.

A big change for this show was the return of Daphne to the main group. Each episode was 30 minutes long and had two shorter cartoons, each about 11 minutes. In 1984, the show's name changed to The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. The way the show was made stayed the same. For the second season, Fred and Velma also came back to the show for a short time. They had been away for four years. Both versions of the show aired on ABC.

About the Show

Season One: The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show

For this version, the creators at Hanna-Barbera wanted to mix old and new ideas. They brought Daphne Blake back into the group. She had not been in the show for three years.

The stories in each episode followed Daphne, Shaggy Rogers, Scooby-Doo, and Scrappy-Doo. They pretended to be reporters for a teen magazine. This helped them solve spooky mysteries. Each half-hour show usually had two 11-minute cartoons. Sometimes, these two parts would combine to tell one longer story.

Season Two: The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries

The second season, called The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, kept the same cartoon format. This season also brought back two more original Scooby-Doo characters: Fred Jones and Velma Dinkley. They had been missing from the series for five years.

In one episode, Fred's last name was first said to be "Rogers." This was a mistake, as "Rogers" is Shaggy's last name. Later in the same episode, it was corrected to "Jones." The theme song for The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries sounded like music from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" era. The opening video even showed monsters dancing like the zombies in Jackson's "Thriller" music video.
