The Walk is a special tradition at Indiana State University. It is part of their annual Homecoming celebration. This event started in the late 1970s and has grown very popular.
On game day, thousands of students wake up early. They begin a two-mile walk at 6 AM. The walk goes east along Wabash Avenue towards the Football Stadium. It's a fun way for students to show their school spirit.
Indiana State University has also added programs to make The Walk safe for everyone. For example, in 2009, they started "SoberRide" and "Designated Walker" programs. These help ensure that all participants can enjoy the event safely. The Walk also happens at the same time as the Blue and White Parade. This parade goes through downtown Terre Haute on game day.
How The Walk Began
The tradition of The Walk started in the late 1970s. Back then, students would walk from Saturday night football games. They would head back to campus after the game. This walk became a fun way to celebrate and connect. Over the years, it grew into a big part of the Homecoming festivities.
