Theobald II (born 1263, died May 13, 1312) was an important leader known as the Duke of Lorraine. He ruled from 1303 until his death in 1312. Theobald was the son of Frederick III and Margaret. His mother, Margaret, was the daughter of King Theobald I of Navarre.

Theobald's Early Political Life
In 1298, Theobald II took part in a big battle called the Battle of Göllheim. This battle happened near a city called Speyer. During this fight, the king of Germany, Adolph, was killed while fighting against his rival, Albert of Habsburg. Theobald chose to support Albert in this conflict.
Supporting the French King
In 1302, Theobald and his son, Frederick, supported Philip IV of France. They fought in the Battle of the Golden Spurs near Kortrijk. In this battle, the French knights, led by Robert II of Artois, were defeated by the Flemings.
Theobald was also present at the Battle of Mons-en-Pévèle in 1304. In this battle, the French king himself led his army. After the battle, Theobald, along with John II, Duke of Brabant, and Amadeus V, Count of Savoy, were chosen for an important job. They were sent to negotiate peace with Flanders.
Working with the Pope
In 1305, Theobald was in Lyon for the crowning of Pope Clement V. The Pope decided to collect a special tax from the clergy, which are church officials. He asked Theobald to help collect this tax. Theobald successfully handled the opposition from Renaud de Bar, who was the bishop of Metz.
Theobald's Family Life
Theobald II, Duke of Lorraine, married Isabelle of Rumigny. Their marriage contract was signed in April 1270. They officially married on May 23, 1278. Isabelle was born in 1263 and passed away in 1326. She was the daughter of Hugh, lord of Rumigny.
Theobald and Isabelle had several children:
- Frederick: Born on April 15, 1282, and died on April 21, 1329. He became the next Duke of Lorraine after his father.
- Matthias: He died around 1330. Matthias was the lord of Darney, Boves, Blainville, and Florennes. He married Mathilde of Flanders.
- Hugh: He died after March 20, 1337. Hugh became the leader in Rumigny, Martigny, and Aubenton.
- Mary: She died after 1344. Mary married Guy de Châtillon in 1324. He was the lord of Fère-en-Tardenois. They had one child.
- Margaret: She died in 1348. Margaret first married Guy de Dampierre around 1311. He was the count of Zeeland. Later, in 1313, she married Louis IV, de Looz & Chiny.
- Isabella: She died in 1353. Isabella married Érard de Bar, who died in 1337. He was the lord of Pierrepont. They had six children.
- Philippine: She became a nun.
