The Third Battle of Tucson was an important fight during the time when Spain was expanding its control into a region called Sonora. This area is now known as Arizona in the United States. This battle was a clash between Apache warriors and the Spanish soldiers who protected the town of Tucson.

What Happened During the Battle?

On Christmas Day, December 25, 1782, Apache warriors attacked Tucson for the third time. Their main goal was to take the town's cattle herds.

General Pedro Allande y Saabedra, a Spanish leader, later described the attack. He said that more than 200 Apache warriors tried to take the cattle. Spanish troops were sent to chase them. Even though General Allande was injured, his soldiers managed to stop the attack. They killed six of the Apache attackers.

To discourage future attacks, the Spanish displayed warnings along the walls of their fort, known as the presidio. The exact number of Spanish soldiers who were hurt or killed is not known. The Apache warriors would try to attack Tucson again two years later to capture Spanish livestock.
