Early Life and Education
Thomas William Sadler was born near Russellville, Alabama, in 1831. When he was two years old, his family moved to Jefferson County, Alabama. He received a good education, studying different subjects.
In 1855, he moved to Autauga County, Alabama. There, he worked in businesses that bought and sold goods.
Service During the Civil War
During the American Civil War, Thomas Sadler volunteered to serve. He was part of the Confederate States Army. He served in a group led by General Joseph Wheeler. After the war, he worked in farming.
Becoming a Lawyer
Thomas Sadler also decided to study law. He worked hard and was allowed to become a lawyer in 1867. He then started his own law practice in Prattville, Alabama. From 1875 to 1884, he also worked as the superintendent of education for the county. This meant he helped manage the schools.
Political Career
Thomas Sadler was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1885, he was elected to the Forty-ninth Congress. This was a big achievement, as he became a U.S. Representative for Alabama. His term in Congress lasted from March 4, 1885, to March 3, 1887.
After Congress
After his time in Congress, Thomas Sadler tried to be re-elected in 1886, but he was not successful. He then went back to working as a lawyer.
Later Life and Legacy
Thomas William Sadler passed away in Prattville, Alabama, on October 29, 1896. He was 65 years old. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.
