History of Three Springs
Three Springs has an interesting past. A special type of train track, called a narrow-gauge track, was built through the town in 1874. This was for the East Broad Top Railroad.
There was a small train yard and a station here. The railroad also served a place where fuel was stored and a scrap yard. The train tracks haven't been used since 1956. However, they are still in place and are owned by the railroad company.
Geography and Nature
Three Springs is in the southern part of Huntingdon County. It sits at the bottom of the south end of Jacks Mountain.
Two streams, Spring Creek and North Spring Branch, flow through the borough. They join together just outside the town to form Three Springs Creek. This creek flows east and joins Aughwick Creek. Aughwick Creek is part of the Juniata River watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a specific river or body of water. Another stream, Sinking Run, also flows through the eastern part of Three Springs.
