Tianna Bartoletta (born Tianna Madison on August 30, 1985) is an American track and field athlete. She is known for her skills in the long jump and short sprinting events. Tianna has won three gold medals at the Olympic Games.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she finished fourth in the 100-meter race. She then won her first gold medal as the lead runner in the 4 × 100 meter relay team, which set a new world record.
In the 2016 Summer Olympics, Tianna won two more gold medals. She achieved a personal best to win the long jump event. She then helped the 4 × 100 meter relay team win gold again.
Tianna also won the long jump World Championship in 2005 and 2015. She also won the long jump World Indoor Championship in 2006. In 2012, she even joined the U.S. bobsled team as a pusher.
In August 2020, it was announced that Tianna would become an ambassador for SPIRE Institute and Academy. She joined other athletes like Ryan Lochte and Elizabeth Beisel. Their goal is to help students develop their best in sports, school, character, and life.

Tianna's High School Sports Journey
Tianna Bartoletta, whose birth name was Tianna Madison, was born on August 30, 1985, in Elyria, Ohio. She went to public schools in her hometown, including Elyria High School. She was a talented athlete, playing on both her high school basketball and track teams.
In 2003, she was part of the USA TODAY All-USA High School Girls Track Team. Sports Illustrated featured her in their "Faces In The Crowd" section. Tianna also helped elementary students through the Ohio Reads program. She was on Elyria High School’s Honor Rolls for four years. In 2003, she was named the Gatorade Ohio High School Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
Tianna was recognized as an American Track & Field Outdoor All-American in 2002. She won nine state championships during her high school career. Seven of these were in individual events. She became only the third athlete in Ohio to win four events at a state championship meet two years in a row. The others were Susan Nash (1983–84) and Jesse Owens (1932–33).
Her team won the Ohio Division I team title in 2003. They also won team district titles all four years she was there. Bartoletta won her third Ohio long jump title in 2003. She set a new state outdoor record and a state-meet best in that event. She also won the state 100m titles in 2002 and 2003. She won the Ohio 200m championships as well.
Tianna was the anchor for the 4 × 100 m relay team, leading them to victory in both 2002 and 2003. They set new state records in these races. She also set an indoor long jump record in 2002. She is fourth on the all-time list for girls' indoor long jump.
Bartoletta won the Intermediate Girls Division at the USA Track & Field Junior Olympic Championships in 2001. She set new meet records at the 2002 Nike Indoor Classic and the 2003 Adidas Outdoor Championships. She also won the Volunteer Indoor Track Classic and the 2003 USATF Junior Championships.
College Athletics at the University of Tennessee
Tianna Madison went to the University of Tennessee. While there, she won several important titles. These included the SEC Indoor Long Jump, SEC Outdoor Long Jump, NCAA Indoor Long Jump, and NCAA Outdoor Long Jump. She also earned both Indoor and Outdoor All-America honors.
She was recognized for her academic achievements too. She was named Academic All-SEC and was on the Lady Vol Academic Honor Roll.
Madison is currently ranked third all-time at the University of Tennessee for indoor performance in the 60m dash and long jump. She is fifth all-time in the triple jump and 55m, and sixth in the 200m.
She was chosen as the SEC Freshman Outdoor Field Events Athlete of the Year. She won the long jump and 55m at the SEC Invitational. She also won the long jump at the Penn State National Open, the Sea Ray Relays, the Knoxville Invitational, and the Gatorade Classic. At the Penn Relays, she ran the first 200-meter part of the sprint medley relay. This team set new collegiate, meet, stadium, and school records for Tennessee.
She holds the record for the outdoor long jump in Tennessee’s history. Her best jump was 6.89 meters (22 ft 7.5 in).
Professional Track and Field Career
In August 2005, Tianna Madison won a gold medal at the 2005 World Outdoor Championships in Athletics. She achieved a personal best jump of 6.89 meters at that time.
In 2006, Madison won the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships of Athletics with a jump of 6.80 meters. Her medal was later changed to gold. This happened because the original Russian winner, Tatyana Kotova, was disqualified for using banned substances.
Madison won a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London. This was for the women's 4x100 relay. She ran the first part of the race in the final, where the U.S. team set a new world record. She also competed in the individual 100 meter event. She made it to the final and finished fourth with her personal best time of 10.85 seconds.
In 2014, Madison became the USA outdoor champion in the 100m. She also became the USA indoor champion in the 60m. She was the runner-up in the USA outdoor long jump. In 2015, Madison kept her title as the USA indoor champion in the 60m. She was also ranked number 1 in the world for the women's long jump.
On August 28, 2015, Madison won another gold medal in the women's long jump. This was at the 2015 World Outdoor Championships of Athletics. She achieved a new personal best jump of 7.14 meters. This win came 10 years after her first victory at this event.
On August 17, 2016, Madison was a top contender in the Women's Long Jump at the Olympics. She was the current world champion. Other strong competitors included Brittney Reese, Ivana Španović, and Daria Klishina. Madison performed wonderfully, winning her first Olympic title with a personal best jump of 7.17m.
In August 2020, SPIRE Institute and Academy signed Madison. She became a track and field ambassador for them. In this role, she leads and teaches special classes.
Bobsledding Adventures
In October 2012, Tianna Madison was chosen for the U.S. National bobsled team. She was one of three track and field Olympians invited to try out for the U.S. women's bobsled push championship. The coach, Todd Hays, invited her along with Lolo Jones and Hyleas Fountain.
Both Jones and Madison made the bobsled team. This gave them a chance to compete on the bobsled World Cup circuit. On November 9, 2012, Madison and her teammate Elana Meyers finished third in Madison’s very first World Cup bobsledding competition.
Tianna's Personal Life
Tianna Madison married John Bartoletta in 2016. She started using her married name, Bartoletta, after the Olympics in 2012. They lived near Tampa, Florida. Tianna has said that John helped her restart her athletic career. The couple later divorced in 2020.
In Fall 2021, Madison became a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority.
Club 360 Organization
Madison is the founder and president of Club 360. This program helps young women build successful lives. It does this by giving them new experiences and helping them make smart choices.
