Tianna Marie Hawkins (born March 2, 1991) is an American professional basketball player. She currently plays for the Townsville Fire team in Australia's Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Tianna is known for her strong play as a power forward. Before becoming a professional, she played college basketball at the University of Maryland.
Early Life and College Basketball
Tianna grew up in Washington D.C. She went to Riverdale Baptist School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. After high school, she attended the University of Maryland. She played for the Maryland Terrapins women's basketball team from 2009 to 2013.
During her time at Maryland, Tianna was a key player. In her senior year (2012–13), she averaged 18.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She was recognized as a First-team All-ACC player in 2013. This showed she was one of the best players in her college league.
Professional Basketball Journey
Tianna Hawkins began her professional career in 2013. The Seattle Storm team picked her as the 6th overall player in the 2013 WNBA draft. This was a big moment for her.
After playing for the Storm, she also played internationally. She joined UNIQA Euroleasing Sopron in Hungary for the 2013-2014 EuroLeague Women season. This gave her experience playing against top teams worldwide.
In 2014, Tianna returned to the WNBA. She and another player, Bria Hartley, were traded to the Washington Mystics. She played for the Mystics for many years, from 2014 to 2020. During this time, she also played for teams in other countries. She played for Henan Yichuan in China and Guri KDB Life Winnus and Asan Woori Bank Wibee in South Korea.
A major highlight of her career came in 2019. Tianna helped the Washington Mystics win the WNBA championship. This was a huge achievement for her and the team.
In 2021, Tianna played for the Atlanta Dream. She then returned to the Washington Mystics for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Most recently, in the 2022–23 WNBL season, Tianna joined the Townsville Fire in Australia. She helped them win the WNBL championship. She also won the Grand Final MVP award for her amazing performance. This means she was the best player in the championship game. In 2022, she also became an Athletes Unlimited Champion.
Tianna Hawkins continues to be a strong and important player in professional basketball.
