History of Tiger Tours
Starting the Bus Service
The company began in 1942. A person named Keith Wood bought a bus route, which was called route 50. This route connected the areas of Caringbah and Miranda. It also had a side trip to Taren Point.
In May 1955, the Taren Point part of the route was sold to another company. Later that same year, the company officially became known as Caringbah Bus Service.
Changes to Bus Routes
In 1992, Caringbah Bus Service bought a part of another company's route. This was route 114, which also ran between Miranda and Caringbah. They combined it with their own route 50.
A year later, in 1993, route 50 was changed and split into two new routes:
- 977: This route went from Miranda to Caringbah and then to Lilli Pilli.
- 978: This route went from Miranda to Caringbah and then to Port Hacking.
These buses helped people travel between Miranda, Port Hacking, Dolans Bay, and Lilli Pilli. They also provided bus services for schools in the area. In 2009, the routes were changed again to make them more direct.
Becoming Tiger Tours
In 2005, the bus services in Sydney were organized into different areas called "regions." Caringbah Bus Service was part of Region 11. In October 2011, Caringbah Bus Service sold its regular bus routes (977 and 978) to another company called Veolia Transport NSW. Nine buses were also part of this sale.
Even before this, Caringbah Bus Service had a separate business for special bus trips and tours. This part of the business was called Tiger Tours. After selling the regular bus routes, Tiger Tours continued to operate with 11 vehicles.
The Company's New Owners
On May 1, 2015, the Tiger Tours business was bought by Dunn Motor Traction. It then became a part of their Telford Tours operations. In November 2019, the entire business was sold again to the Kinetic Group.
