Dolans Bay is a lovely suburb right by the water in Southern Sydney, Australia. It's about 26 kilometers (16 miles) south of the main city center of Sydney. This area is part of the Sutherland Shire, which is like its local council or government.

You'll find Dolans Bay on the northern side of the Port Hacking estuary, which is where a river meets the sea. The suburb gets its name from a small cove (a small bay) located on the edge of Burraneer Bay. Many houses in Dolans Bay have amazing views of the water, and some are right on the shoreline with their own boatsheds. Boats are often anchored in the bay, safe from strong winds. Burraneer Bay also has a private marina where boats can be repaired.

Dolans Bay is surrounded by other suburbs like Caringbah South, Lilli Pilli, and Port Hacking. Across Burraneer Bay, you'll find the suburb of Burraneer. On the opposite side of Port Hacking are the small villages of Maianbar and Bundeena.

Discovering Dolans Bay's Past

Dolans Bay was named after a land owner in the area, either Patrick Dolan or his son, Dominick Dolan. Patrick bought about 286 acres of land next to the bay in 1856. Later, in 1858, Mary and Andrew Webster also bought land here. They sold their land to Dominick Dolan in 1863.

In 1927, some land lots in the "Port Hacking Seymour Estate" were put up for sale. There was even a stone bungalow (a type of house) advertised for sale on one of these blocks.
