Taren Point is a small suburb in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is about 18 kilometres south of the main city centre. Taren Point is part of the Sutherland Shire, which is a local government area.

This suburb is on a piece of land that sticks out into the water, called a peninsula. It is surrounded by the suburbs of Sylvania Waters and Caringbah. The Captain Cook Bridge connects Taren Point across the Georges River to Sans Souci.

Taren Point has both homes and shops. The homes are mostly along the Georges River, near where it meets Botany Bay. Most of the shops are found along Taren Point Road and closer to Woolooware Bay.

A Look Back: Taren Point's History

Taren Point had a few different names in the past. It was once called Comyns Point, then Cummins Point, and later Commins Point. People think these names came from a person who lived there. How the name Taren Point came about is not fully known.

A man named Thomas Holt (1811–1888) owned a lot of land in this area. His land stretched from Sutherland all the way to Cronulla. Today, Holt Road is named after him to remember his connection to the area.

In 2010, there was a problem with cane toads in Taren Point. These toads are not native to the area and can harm local wildlife. By 2014, the situation was under control. No cane toads have been seen in Taren Point since then.
