Tilarán is a small town and a district in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica. It is the main town of the Tilarán Canton. The town is located in the hills that look over the western shore of Lake Arenal.
You can reach Tilarán by road from El Silencio. Road 142 also connects it through the Cordillera de Tilarán hills to Tejona. The area between Tilarán and Tejona is famous for its many wind turbines. These turbines are a big part of the landscape. Raising animals is also an important part of the local economy.

Geography and Location
Tilarán covers an area of about 139.43 square kilometers (53.8 square miles). It is located at an elevation of 564 meters (1,850 feet) above sea level.

The district of Tilarán includes several smaller areas. These are:

In the year 2011, a census showed that Tilarán had a population of 8,677 people. Most people in Tilarán follow the Roman Catholic religion. The town is also the center of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tilarán.

Road 142 connects Tilarán to El Silencio. It also goes through the Cordillera de Tilarán hills to the town of Tejona.
Economy
