Tim Daniel (born September 14, 1969) is an American former professional football player. He was a wide receiver, which means he was a player who catches passes from the quarterback. Tim played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Before that, he was chosen by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1992 NFL draft. He also played college football at Florida A&M University.

Tim Daniel's Early Life and College Football Journey

Tim Daniel went to Benjamin Elijah Mays High School. While there, he was a star in both football and track. He earned special honors, being named All-conference and All-county during his senior year.

Joining Florida A&M University's Football Team

After high school, Tim decided to attend Florida A&M University. He joined the football team as a "walk-on", which means he wasn't given a scholarship right away. In his first year, he mostly helped block for other players.

Becoming a Key Player in the Passing Game

For a couple of years before Tim joined, Florida A&M's offense mostly focused on running the ball. They didn't throw much, averaging only about 70 passing yards per game. But things changed when quarterback Antoine "Tony" Ezell arrived. Tony became the school's all-time leader in passing yards! With Tony, the team started throwing the ball a lot more, averaging 238 passing yards per game.

As a sophomore, Tim started to show what he could do in the passing game. He caught 12 passes for 198 yards and scored one touchdown.

Tim Daniel's Amazing Junior Season in 1990

In 1990, Tim Daniel became known as a "deep threat" receiver. This means he was great at catching long passes down the field. He was part of a group of receivers called the "Stallions." That year, he caught 19 passes for 512 yards. He averaged an amazing 26.9 yards per catch, which was the best in his conference!

Tim helped his team, the Rattlers, win their first championship in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. They had a perfect 6-0 record in conference games.

Setting Records Against Delaware State University

One of Tim's best games in college was against Delaware State University. He set a new school record by gaining 152 receiving yards in just four catches. He also scored 2 touchdowns in that game! He broke the old record set by Ray Alexander in 1983.

In that same game, Tim had an incredible 98-yard touchdown reception. This was the second-longest touchdown catch in the history of his school and the conference!

Tim Daniel's Strong Senior Year Performance

As a senior, Tim continued to play a big role. He caught a career-high 30 passes, which was the second-highest on the team. He also led the team with a career-high 580 receiving yards and scored 3 touchdowns.

Highlights from His Final College Games

In the first game of his senior season against Tuskegee University, Tim caught 3 passes for 115 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown. In his very last college game against Bethune–Cookman University, he had his best single-game performance with 9 catches. This was the second-highest number of catches in a single game in school history! He gained 141 yards and scored one touchdown in that game.

Overall, during his college career, Tim Daniel caught 61 passes for 1,290 yards and 7 touchdowns. He averaged 21.1 yards for every catch and scored a touchdown every 8.7 catches. His contributions helped his team have four winning seasons in a row.

Tim Daniel's Professional Football Career

After his successful college career, Tim Daniel moved on to play professional football.

Joining the Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys picked Tim Daniel in the 11th round of the 1992 NFL draft. He was the 302nd player chosen overall. The Cowboys were interested in him because of his incredible speed, as he could run the 40-yard dash in just 4.38 seconds!

However, during a mini-camp as a rookie, Tim injured his right hamstring. Because of this injury, he was placed on the "physically unable to perform list" and couldn't play for his entire first year.

In 1993, Tim made the Cowboys' roster. But he was listed as "inactive" for every game, meaning he didn't play. This included Super Bowl XXVIII, which the Cowboys won! He was re-signed by the team in July 1994 but was later released in August.

Playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers

After his time with the Dallas Cowboys, Tim Daniel played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for them from 1994 to 1995. During his time with the Blue Bombers, he gained a total of 1,091 "all-purpose yards" (which means yards from running, catching, and returning kicks) and scored 4 touchdowns.
