Timothy Michael Federle (born March 24, 1980) is an American author, writer for theater, director, and screenwriter. He is known for his novel Better Nate Than Ever, the animated movie Ferdinand, and Disney's High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Biography

Tim Federle was born in Foster City, California, on March 24, 1980. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Many of his stories are set in Pittsburgh.

Before he became a writer, Federle was an actor, dancer, and singer. He performed in Broadway shows like The Little Mermaid and Gypsy. He also worked on the dance team for Billy Elliot the Musical.

Better Nate Than Ever (2013, Simon & Schuster): This was Tim Federle's first novel for middle schoolers. It tells the story of Nate, a 13-year-old boy. Nate secretly leaves his home in Pennsylvania to try out for a Broadway musical called E.T: The Musical. The book was very popular and received many good reviews. It was named an Amazon Best Book of 2013 and a New York Times Notable Book of 2013. The audio version of the book, read by Federle, won an Odyssey Award Honor Book. In 2021, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures announced a movie based on the book. Tim Federle wrote and directed the film, which was released on Disney+ in the spring of 2022.

Five, Six, Seven, Nate! (2014, Simon & Schuster): This book is the sequel to Better Nate Than Ever. It continues Nate's adventures in New York City. He learns how to handle being part of a big Broadway musical. Critics praised the book, calling it an "Encore performance."
