Tim Jennings: Football Star
Tim Jennings started his professional football journey after college. He was picked by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2006 NFL draft. This was a big step for him.
Playing for the Colts
Tim joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2006. As a rookie, he helped his team win Super Bowl XLI. This is one of the biggest achievements in football. From 2006 to 2009, Tim played in 53 games. He also made four interceptions during his time with the Colts. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player.
Time with the Chicago Bears
Making a Big Impact in 2010
In 2010, Tim Jennings signed with the Chicago Bears. He quickly became a starting player for their defense. In a game against the Buffalo Bills, Tim caught an interception and ran it back for a touchdown. This play helped the Bears win 22–19. He was part of the Bears team that almost reached the Super Bowl in 2010.
Becoming a Top Player in 2011 and 2012
After a tough 2011 season, Tim worked hard to improve. He became one of the best "cover corners" in the NFL. A cover corner is a player who is very good at guarding offensive players. In Chicago, Tim and his teammate Charles Tillman formed a strong team. They were known as one of the best cornerback duos in the league.
In 2012, Tim signed a new contract with the Bears. In the first game of the season, he intercepted the opposing quarterback, Andrew Luck, twice. This was the first time Tim had two interceptions in one game. He also helped create another interception by deflecting a pass. Later that season, Tim became the first Bears player since 1986 to get an interception in four games in a row. He was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September.
Tim led the entire NFL with nine interceptions in 2012. This made him the first Bears player since 1990 to lead the league in interceptions. Because of his great performance, Tim was chosen for his first Pro Bowl. The Pro Bowl is an all-star game for the best players in the NFL. He was also named to the Second-Team All-Pro list.
More Success in 2013
In 2013, Tim continued to play well. He had four interceptions, which was the second-highest of his career. Over two seasons (2012-2013), he had 13 interceptions. This was the second-most in the league. On January 2, 2014, Tim signed a new four-year contract with the Bears. He was also named to the 2014 Pro Bowl roster. This made him the second Bears cornerback to go to the Pro Bowl two years in a row.
Leaving the Bears in 2015
On August 30, 2015, Tim Jennings was released by the Chicago Bears.
Short Time with the Buccaneers
Tim signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 3, 2015. However, he was released from the Buccaneers on November 9, 2015. This was his last team in the NFL.
Life After Playing: Coaching
After his career as a player, Tim Jennings became a coach. He is now the defensive backs coach at Denmark High School in Georgia. He helps young players learn how to play defense.
Family Life
Tim Jennings is related to another former NFL player. He is the younger cousin of Donnie Abraham, who was also an NFL cornerback.
