Tim's Professional Tennis Journey
Starting Out: Singles and Davis Cup Debut (2014–2017)
Tim Pütz first played in a big tennis tournament called Wimbledon in 2014. He had to win special qualifying matches to get into the main part of the tournament. He won his first match against Teymuraz Gabashvili but then lost his next match to Fabio Fognini.
In 2017, Tim joined the German team for the Davis Cup, a big team competition between countries. He helped Germany win against Portugal by winning his doubles match with Jan-Lennard Struff.
First Big Wins and Grand Slam Quarterfinals (2018–2020)
In 2018, Tim and Jan-Lennard Struff helped Germany win against Australia in the Davis Cup. They also won their doubles match against Spain in the quarterfinals, but Germany's team lost the overall competition.
In June 2018, Tim won his very first doubles title on the ATP Tour at the Stuttgart Open. He played with Philipp Petzschner and they were a "wildcard entry," meaning they got a special invitation to play.
In May 2019, Tim won his second doubles title with Frederik Nielsen at a tournament in Munich, Germany.
Tim reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal (the round before the semifinals) at the 2020 French Open with Frederik Nielsen. They played against the world's top-ranked team and lost.
Winning Big: Masters Titles and Top 20 Ranking (2021)
In 2021, Tim won his third doubles title at the Estoril Open with Hugo Nys.
He then reached the semifinals of a "Masters 1000" tournament (a very important series of events) at the Madrid Open with Alexander Zverev, another German player. Later that May, Tim won his fourth doubles title at the Lyon Open, again with Hugo Nys.
Tim and Hugo Nys also made it to the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2021.
In July, Tim won his fifth title and his first "ATP 500" tournament (another high-level event) at the Hamburg European Open with Michael Venus.
He and Michael Venus also reached the semifinals at the Indian Wells Masters. Tim won his first "ATP Masters 1000" title at the Paris Masters with Michael Venus. Because of these great results, Tim reached a new high ranking of No. 17 in doubles in November 2021.
Reaching World No. 7 (2022)
In 2022, Tim and Michael Venus reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
On March 21, Tim entered the top 10 doubles players in the world for the first time, ranking at No. 9. After reaching the final at the Cincinnati Masters with Michael Venus, he achieved his highest doubles ranking of world No. 7 in August 2022.
New Partner and Grand Slam Mixed Title (2023)
Tim Pütz won his first Grand Slam title at the French Open mixed doubles championship with Miyu Kato. This was a huge achievement!
At the same tournament, he reached the quarterfinals in men's doubles for the third time, now with his new partner Kevin Krawietz. They won against a team that had beaten them before. They eventually lost to the champions of that tournament.
Tim and Kevin Krawietz reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Wimbledon Championships. They also won their first title together at the Hamburg European Open.
US Open Finalist and ATP Finals Champion (2024)
At the Australian Open in 2024, Tim and Kevin Krawietz reached the quarterfinals. They also made it to the semifinals at the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open.
In July, they won the title at the Hamburg Open in Germany, which they had also won the previous year.
Tim reached his first Grand Slam final in men's doubles with Kevin Krawietz at the US Open. They beat several strong teams to get there.
Making his first appearance in the main competition at the 2024 ATP Finals, Tim and Kevin Krawietz reached the semifinals. They became the first all-German team to reach the semifinals and then the final in the history of the ATP Finals. They also became the first No. 8 seeded team to reach the doubles final, which they won in straight sets against Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavić. This was a fantastic way to end the year!
Starting 2025 Strong (2025)
Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz started 2025 by reaching the final at the Adelaide International. They played a very close match but lost in a special tie-break.
