Timber Lake is a small city located in Dewey County, South Dakota, in the United States. Its name in the Lakota language is blečháŋ, which means "Tree Lake." In 2020, about 509 people lived there. It's also the main town, or county seat, for Dewey County.

History of Timber Lake
Timber Lake was started in 1910. This happened when the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad built tracks into the area. Even though the name is "Timber Lake," there were not many trees near the town's lake. During dry times, the lake can even turn into a muddy area.
In 1946, a very large tornado hit the area around Timber Lake. It was a powerful storm that affected the community.

Timber Lake covers a total area of about 0.41 square miles (1.06 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
