Tin City (Inupiaq: Tupqaġruk) is a mostly empty town in Alaska, a state in the United States. It is often called a ghost town because almost no one lives there anymore. The town is located in the Nome Census Area.

Tin City sits right by the Bering Sea coast. It is about 5 miles (8 kilometers) southeast of Cape Prince of Wales on the Seward Peninsula. Even though the town is mostly empty, there is a small radar station nearby. This station has only a few people working there.

You can also find the Tin City LRRS (Long Range Radar Site) Airport close by. This airport helps with the radar station's work.

Tin City in the past

The story of Tin City began in July 1902. That's when people found tin ore on Cape Mountain. Tin is a metal used for many things, like making cans.

Because of this discovery, a mining camp was set up in 1903. This camp was at the bottom of the mountain. Soon after, in 1904, a post office opened in Tin City. This meant people could send and receive mail there.

By 1907, Tin City had a few houses spread out. Two companies were also working in the village, likely mining for tin. However, the post office closed just two years later, in 1909. This shows that the town's busy period did not last very long.
