History

Tioga got its name from the Tioga Native American tribe. This tribe lived in New York.

Tioga is located in Grayson County, Texas. The town covers a total area of about 1.2 square miles (3.1 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a very small part, about 0.81%, is water.

Tioga Schools

The Tioga Independent School District is in charge of the schools in Tioga. This district helps local students get their education.

Before the 2012–2013 school year, students in Tioga went to school in the district from Pre-Kindergarten up to eighth grade. For high school, students in grades nine through twelve attended Gunter High School. This high school was in the nearby Gunter Independent School District.

However, things changed during the 2012–2013 school year. The Tioga school district started to add high school grades. They began with the 9th grade. Each year after that, they added another grade. By the 2015–2016 school year, Tioga High School had its very first graduating class!
