Toffo (toffee) facts for kids
Toffo was a popular British sweet, a type of toffee. It was first made by a company called Mackintosh's. These chewy sweets came wrapped individually in a roll. You could find them in different tastes like plain, mint, or a mix of fruit flavours. The fruit mix included apple, strawberry, pineapple, banana, and mint.
Toffo was one of Mackintosh's most famous sweets. Other well-known brands from them included Polo, Quality Street, Toffee Crisp, Fox's Glacier Mints, and Caramac.
The History of Toffo
Toffo had a catchy advertising phrase: "a man’s gotta chew what a man’s gotta chew." This slogan was used to promote the chewy nature of the sweets.
Changes in Ownership
In 1969, a big change happened. The company Rowntree's joined with Mackintosh's. After this, the new company, called Rowntree Mackintosh Confectionery, took over making Toffo.
Toffo's Return
Toffo sweets were stopped in 2005. Many people missed them. But later, the big food company Nestlé brought Toffo back! The new Toffo sweets came in a small tube, weighing 19.2 grams. They were made in the United Arab Emirates.
