Tony Kemp (born October 31, 1991) is an American professional baseball player. He plays as a second baseman and left fielder. Tony has played for several teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). These teams include the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, and Baltimore Orioles.
Tony played college baseball at Vanderbilt University. The Houston Astros chose him in the 2013 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Astros in 2016. Tony Kemp was part of the team that won the 2017 World Series. After being traded to the Cubs in 2019, he played for the Athletics and then the Orioles.

Early Life and College Baseball
Tony Kemp grew up in Franklin, Tennessee. He went to Centennial High School. After high school, he attended Vanderbilt University. There, he played college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team.
In 2011, Tony was named the Freshman of the Year in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He also made the First Team All-SEC. He helped his team reach the College World Series for the first time in Vanderbilt's history. In 2013, he was named an All-American. He also won the SEC Baseball Player of the Year award.
Playing for the Houston Astros
The Houston Astros picked Tony Kemp in the fifth round of the 2013 MLB draft. In 2015, he started playing for the Corpus Christi Hooks. This team is part of the Double–A Texas League. Later that year, he moved up to the Fresno Grizzlies. This is a Triple–A team. He even played in the 2015 All-Star Futures Game.
Tony started the 2016 season with Fresno. He was called up to the major leagues on May 16, 2016. He played in 136 games for the Astros that year. He mainly played left field.
In 2017, Tony was called up to the Astros again. He played in 17 games. The Astros had a great season, winning 101 games. They went on to win the 2017 World Series. This was their first championship title ever. Tony was on the team roster and earned his first championship ring.
In 2018, Tony played in 97 games for the Astros. He hit 6 home runs and had 30 RBIs. During the 2018 American League Championship Series, he made a fantastic leaping catch. This catch against the left field wall was widely talked about. He also hit a solo home run in Game 4 of that series.
In July 2019, the Astros traded Tony Kemp. He had played 66 games for them that season.
Time with the Chicago Cubs
On July 31, 2019, Tony Kemp was traded to the Chicago Cubs. He played 82 games for the Cubs in 2019. He hit one home run during his time with the team.
Joining the Oakland Athletics
On January 13, 2020, the Cubs traded Tony Kemp to the Oakland Athletics. In 2020, he played in 49 games for the Athletics. He signed a contract for the 2021 season.
In 2021, Tony played in 131 games. He hit 8 home runs and had 37 RBIs. He continued to play for the Athletics in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, he played in 124 games. He hit 5 home runs and stole 15 bases.
Playing for the Baltimore Orioles

In February 2024, Tony Kemp signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds. However, he was released before the season started.
On March 26, he signed a contract with the Baltimore Orioles. He played in 10 games for the Orioles. He was then released by the team in April.
Short Stays with Other Teams
After leaving the Orioles, Tony signed with the Minnesota Twins in April 2024. He played 46 games for their Triple–A team, the St. Paul Saints. He hit six home runs there. In July, he chose to leave the Twins.
Later in July 2024, Tony signed with the Cincinnati Reds again. He played 35 games for their Triple–A team, the Louisville Bats. He was released by the Reds in August.
Personal Life
Tony Kemp is married to Michelle Chieng. They met when they were in high school. Tony and Michelle have two daughters.
