Tony's High School Basketball Journey
Tony Wroten started playing basketball at Garfield High School. As a freshman, he was amazing! He scored about 21 points and grabbed almost 9 rebounds per game. He was the first freshman ever to be named to the All-Washington State Class 4A first team.
In his second year, Tony continued to play well. He averaged 17.6 points and 6.4 rebounds. During his third year, he had to sit out due to a knee injury he got playing football. But he came back strong for his senior year! He averaged 25 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. Tony was also invited to the special 2011 Jordan Brand Classic game. Experts like Rivals.com thought he was one of the top point guards in the country.
Playing College Basketball at Washington
Tony went on to play college basketball for the Washington Huskies. In his first year, he showed everyone how talented he was. He averaged 16.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
His great performance earned him the title of Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year. He was also named to the All-Pac-12 first team. This was a big deal because he was the first freshman from Washington to get this honor. After just one year in college, Tony decided to enter the 2012 NBA draft.
Tony's Professional Basketball Career
Starting in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies
Tony Wroten was picked by the Memphis Grizzlies as the 25th player in the 2012 NBA draft. During his first year, he also spent some time playing for the Reno Bighorns. This team is part of the NBA Development League, which helps players get more experience.
Becoming a Star with the Philadelphia 76ers
In 2013, Tony was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. This was a big moment for him! On November 13, 2013, in his very first game as a starter, he achieved something amazing. He got a "triple-double" with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. A triple-double means getting double-digit numbers in three different stats. It was the first time in NBA history that a player got a triple-double in their first start!
Tony continued to shine with the 76ers. In March 2014, he scored a career-high 30 points in a game. Then, in November 2014, he scored even more, reaching 31 points! Unfortunately, in January 2015, he had to stop playing for the rest of the season because of a knee injury. Before his injury, he was having his best season, averaging 16.9 points, 5.2 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
He worked hard to recover from his injury. In November 2015, he was sent to the Delaware 87ers to practice and get back into shape. He returned to play for the 76ers in December. However, he was later waived by the team.
Playing for Other Teams
Tony signed with the New York Knicks in March 2016 but did not play any games for them. He was later waived by the Knicks and then by the Memphis Grizzlies again.
In December 2016, Tony joined the Texas Legends. He played his first game for them, scoring 11 points. After his time with the Legends, he was picked by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the 2017 NBA G League draft.

Later, in 2022, Tony played for Zamalek SC in Egypt. He also played for Iraklis in Greece. Due to injuries, he only played a few games there. In 2024, he started the season with Urupan de Pando in Uruguay. He then signed with Selfoss in Iceland's second-tier league in December 2024.
