Top of the Pops Reloaded (also known as TOTP Reloaded) was a weekly music show for kids. It was shown on BBC Two as part of the Saturday morning CBBC schedule. The show was based on the famous music program Top of the Pops. It was first called Top of the Pops Saturday from 2002 to 2005.
You could watch it on BBC Two at 11 AM on Saturdays. It was also repeated on the CBBC Channel on Sundays at 6 PM. Some of the presenters included Fearne Cotton, Sam Nixon, and Mark Rhodes. Radio 1 DJs JK & Joel also appeared regularly. Later, viewers with digital TV could press their red button. This let them choose different music to watch. A fun part of the show was the "Dad-Dancer" feature. Richard Oliff was the first "Dad-Dancer" to appear. He danced to the song "Doctor Pressure" by Mylo.
The Start: Top of the Pops Saturday
Top of the Pops Saturday began on September 21, 2002. It was part of a new version of The Saturday Show. TOTP Saturday was a 45-minute show that was part of the bigger program. It was the last section of The Saturday Show. The presenters were Fearne Cotton and Simon Grant.
The BBC started TOTP Saturday to compete with a popular show on ITV. This show was called SMTV Live. The last hour of SMTV Live was a music magazine section. The BBC used to be very popular on Saturday mornings. But SMTV Live became very successful. This made the original Saturday Show less popular. So, the BBC decided to change things up.
Becoming Top of the Pops Reloaded
The BBC decided to stop The Saturday Show from running all year. Instead, it would only be on between series of Dick & Dom in da Bungalow. Because of this, TOTP Saturday became its own show. It was mostly hosted by Fearne Cotton. This continued until the summer of 2005. The program then took a break from TV.
It came back in September 2005 with a new name: Reloaded. This new version was shown at the same time as the last series of Dick & Dom in da Bungalow. Both Dick & Dom... and TOTP Reloaded finished in March 2006. Soon after TOTP Reloaded ended, the main Top of the Pops show also stopped. Because the original show ended, the Saturday morning spin-off was also cancelled. However, another spin-off called TOTP2 continued. This show featured old Top of the Pops videos.
