Exploring Torla-Ordesa's Location
Torla-Ordesa is found in a valley that was carved out by a glacier long ago. This valley is part of the River Ara. The River Ara is special because it is one of the few important rivers in Spain that flows freely. This means it has no dams built by people along its entire 70-kilometer (43-mile) path.
Natural Borders and Access
Torla-Ordesa is very close to the country of France. However, there are no roads that connect Torla-Ordesa directly to France. This makes the area feel very natural and untouched.
Gateway to Nature Parks
The town is a main entrance to the amazing Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. This park is famous for its stunning mountains and deep valleys. Torla-Ordesa also leads to the Valle de Broto, another beautiful valley.
How to Reach Torla-Ordesa
You can only get to Torla-Ordesa by driving on the N-260 road. This road comes from either Broto or Biescas. If you come from Biescas, you will drive over a mountain pass called Cotefablo, which is 1,423 meters (4,669 feet) high. During the summer, private cars are not allowed into the Ordesa valley from Torla. Instead, special buses take visitors up to the Ordesa meadow. This helps protect the natural environment.
