Torquhil Ian Campbell, born on May 29, 1968, is known as the 13th Duke of Argyll. He is a Scottish 'peer,' which means he holds a special noble title in Scotland. Before becoming Duke, he was called the Earl of Campbell and later the Marquess of Lorne.

His family's main home is Inveraray Castle in Scotland. The Duke and Duchess also spend time at other homes, including one in London.

About the Duke of Argyll

The Duke is the older child and only son of Ian Campbell, the 12th Duke of Argyll. His mother is Iona Mary Colquhoun. He went to several schools, including Glenalmond College. He also studied at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. There, he trained to become a chartered surveyor, which is someone who measures and values land and buildings.

Roles and Interests

From 1981 to 1983, he served as a Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II. This was a special role helping the Queen at official events. He has worked as a sales agent and company manager.

He holds many important titles. These include Master of the Royal Household of Scotland. He is also the Admiral of the Western Coasts and Isles. A very important role is being the Chief of Clan Campbell. The Scottish Gaelic name for this role is MacCailein Mòr.

The Duke is also the captain of Scotland's national elephant polo team. His team won the World Elephant Polo Association World Championships in 2004 and 2005. He also works to promote Scotch whisky for a company called Pernod Ricard.

Family Life

On June 8, 2002, the Duke married Eleanor Cadbury. They were married at St. Mary's Church in Fairford, Gloucestershire. Eleanor is a member of the famous Cadbury chocolate family. Her father, Peter Hugh George Cadbury, was a chairman of a finance company.

The Duke and Duchess's Children

The Duke and Duchess have three children:

  • Archibald Friedrich Campbell, Marquess of Lorne. He was born in London on March 9, 2004. He is often called Archie Lorne. Archie also served as a Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II from 2015 to 2018.
  • Lord Rory James Campbell. He was born in London on February 3, 2006.
  • Lady Charlotte Mary Campbell. She was born in London on October 29, 2008.

The Duchess of Argyll is also involved in important groups. She is a Patroness of the Royal Caledonian Ball. She is also the president of The Georgian Group.

Coat of Arms
