About Torstein Horgmo

Early Life and Snowboarding Start

Torstein Horgmo grew up in Trondheim, Norway. Later, he moved to Oslo. He started snowboarding when he was twelve years old. Before that, he enjoyed skiing.

Sponsors and Creative Projects

Torstein is a rider for DC Shoes. He also has many other sponsors. These include Oakley, Inc., DNB ASA, and GoPro. In 2012, he released his own film. It was called "... – A Love Story". The film showed his snowboarding journey over two years.

Torstein also started his own company. It's called AWSM brand. He created it with another snowboarder, Andreas Wiig. Torstein often rides with fellow snowboarder Mark McMorris. He is also featured on a YouTube channel called "ShredBots." This channel was started by McMorris and Eero Ettala.

Torstein Horgmo's Competition History

Winning Gold Medals

Torstein Horgmo won a gold medal in Snowboard Big Air. This was at the 2008 Winter X Games XII in Aspen. He beat Travis Rice and Kevin Pearce to win.

He also won gold in the slopestyle final. This happened at the 2009 Winter Dew Tour. He won against Shaun White in that event.

Challenges and New Tricks

At the 2009 Winter X Games XIII, Torstein lost in Big Air. His friend and teammate Travis Rice won that time. This event used a new text-voting system for judging. Many riders, including Rice, felt this system was not fair. They thought popularity could matter more than the trick's difficulty.

In the 2009/10 Dew Tour winter season, Torstein won two first-place victories. He beat Shaun White in slopestyle events.

Landing the Triple Cork

In the summer of 2010, Torstein made history. He was the first person to land a "triple cork." This trick involves three off-axis flips and four full rotations. He landed it off a 100-foot jump in Folgefonna, Norway.

At the Winter X Games XV in January 2011, Torstein landed a triple cork in competition. He won a gold medal in the Big Air finals. He beat Sebastien Toutant with this amazing trick.

In January 2012, Torstein landed a "true triple cork 1440." This was at the Winter X Games Big Air Final. He scored a perfect 50/50. This triple cork was a backside spin. He finished second, just behind Mark McMorris.

At the Winter X Games Aspen in January 2013, Torstein made history again. He was the first to land a "switch backside triple cork 1440" in competition. He earned another perfect score of 50/50. This won him the gold medal in Big Air.

After these wins, Torstein also won slopestyle gold and silver medals. These were at the Burton European and US Opens. At the Burton US Open, he was the only rider to land a triple cork on the slopestyle course. However, he narrowly lost to his Shredbots teammate Mark McMorris.

Olympic Dream Interrupted

Torstein qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. But during practice in Sochi, he had an accident. He fell and broke his clavicle (collarbone). This injury meant he could not compete in the Olympics.
