Sébastien Toutant (born November 9, 1992) is a Canadian snowboarder. He is famous for winning a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in men's big air snowboarding. Sébastien, also known as "Seb Toots," has won many medals in his career.

He won two gold medals in slopestyle at the X Games in 2011 and 2013. He also earned two silver medals and one bronze medal at the X Games. These wins were in both slopestyle and big air events. In total, he has five X Games medals.

Becoming a Snowboarder

Sébastien Toutant started snowboarding when he was nine years old. He got into the sport after his skis broke. He decided to borrow his brother's old snowboard instead.

His talent was noticed early on. When he was just 13, he won the Shakedown competition in Quebec. Soon after, a film crew took him to Mount Hood to film him. He was trying out the biggest jumps he had ever done.

Early Wins and X Games Success

Sébastien was supposed to compete in the X Games in 2010. However, he broke his ankle and could not go. The next year, he made his X Games debut.

At the 2011 Winter X Games XV in Aspen, he won a silver medal in Snowboard Big Air. He finished just behind Torstein Horgmo. In the same games, he also won his first X Games gold medal in Snowboard Slopestyle. This made him the first male rookie since 2002 to win gold in slopestyle at the X Games.

In the spring of 2011, Sébastien achieved something amazing. He was only the third person ever to land a "triple cork" (a backside 1440). This is a very difficult trick.

Olympic Dreams and More Medals

After a quieter season in 2012, Sébastien returned strong in 2013. He won gold at the X Games in Tignes, France. He beat his friend and teammate, Mark McMorris, whom he had known since he was 14.

Sébastien made his first Olympic appearance at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He was part of Canada's snowboard team. In the slopestyle final, he finished in 9th place.

After the Olympics, Sébastien continued to excel at the X Games. He won a silver medal in slopestyle in Aspen, Colorado in 2016. A week later, he won the Air + Style event in Innsbruck, Austria.

Road to Olympic Gold

The 2016–17 season was very successful for Sébastien. He won a bronze medal in slopestyle at the X Games Europe in Oslo, Norway. He then won the slopestyle event at the Cardrona Winter Games in New Zealand. He also earned a gold medal in Quebec City at a 2016–17 FIS Snowboard World Cup event.

Sébastien also placed second in the Air + Style event in Beijing that year. He finished second in the US Grand Prix. He ended his season with a third-place finish on the Dew Tour.

Overcoming Challenges for Olympic Gold

Sébastien was chosen for the 2018 Canadian Olympic team in Pyeongchang. However, he competed in fewer events leading up to the games. It was later revealed that he had a back injury. He had to spend time in the gym, only training, while his teammates practiced on the slopes.

Sébastien kept his injury a secret at the Olympics. He finished last in the men's slopestyle final. But in the big air final, he surprised everyone. He defied his injury and won a gold medal, beating his teammates McMorris and Maxence Parrot.

After his victory, he shared his feelings. He said he loves snowboarding very much and had been through a lot. He mentioned that a few months before, he could not even snowboard. He was thrilled to be able to ride his best and land his tricks. He felt awesome to show the world what he could do. This win made Sébastien the first men's big air champion in the Olympics, as it was the event's first time at the games.

In January 2022, Sébastien was named to Canada's 2022 Olympic team. At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, he placed 26th in the big air qualifying event. He did not move on to the final round.
