Towle, also known as Towles, was a small community in Placer County, California. It was not officially a town or city. Towle was located near the Southern Pacific Railroad. This was about 2 miles (1 km) east of Dutch Flat. The area is high up, at 3694 feet (1126 meters) above sea level.

A Look Back at Towle's Past

Towle got its name from two local lumbermen. They were George and Allen Towle. These men worked with wood from the forests nearby.

A post office served the community from 1891 to 1935. This means people could send and receive mail there.

Towle was an important spot for trains. A special narrow-gauge railroad connected here. This railroad helped move lumber. It joined the larger Southern Pacific line.

The community had many useful buildings. There were stores where people could buy things. It also had a town hall for meetings. Boarding houses offered places for people to stay.

Most of Towle was left empty over time. This happened when Interstate 80 was built through the area. Today, only the old train station's foundation remains.
