The Toyota Center is a big building in Kennewick, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest part of the United States. It's a place where many different events happen.
It first opened in 1988 and was called the Tri-Cities Coliseum. Later, in 2004, its name changed to the Three Rivers Coliseum. This was to match the Three Rivers Convention Center built right next to it. In 2005, the city of Kennewick made a deal with Toyota. Toyota agreed to pay money for the building to be named the Toyota Center. This money helps the city make improvements to the building. There's also a smaller building nearby, called "Toyota Arena."
The Toyota Center is located west of central Kennewick. It sits about 500 feet (152 meters) above sea level.
Sports and Games at Toyota Center
The Toyota Center is the home of the Western Hockey League's Tri-City Americans hockey team. It has also hosted other sports teams in the past. These include the Tri-City Chinook basketball team and the Tri-Cities Fever indoor football team. The arena can hold about 6,000 fans for hockey games.
In 1990, the Toyota Center was used for ice hockey during the 1990 Goodwill Games. These games were held in Seattle. The center also hosts state championships for high school volleyball every November.
Concerts and Live Shows
The Toyota Center is a popular place for concerts, with space for over 7,700 people. It also hosts banquets, ice shows, circuses, and trade shows. There is a special part of the building called the "Retter and Company Theatre." This theater hosts Broadway shows, bringing popular plays to the area.
Many famous music groups have performed here. These include Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, and Avenged Sevenfold. Avenged Sevenfold holds the record for the biggest concert crowd, with 6,842 fans. A concert by Shinedown was even filmed at the Toyota Center. It was shown on TV as Madness from Washington State.
Other Exciting Events
The Toyota Center also hosts many other events throughout the year. For example, Jehovah's Witnesses hold their yearly conventions here in July.
It's also a big spot for professional wrestling events. WWE often holds shows here. These events happen when WWE is taping their TV shows like Monday Night Raw or Friday Night Smackdown in nearby cities.
The arena is also a great place for kids' events. Shows like Sesame Street Live Make a New Friend! come to the Toyota Center. This makes it a fun place for people of all ages to visit.
